Indeed something to think about! And really very hard to get a sense of how a personality and consciousness would cease upon the brain's death.

Somehow I have the feeling the answer is in what you call that 'coherent beam of light'. Based upon what Bohm talked about, that each atom has some sort of 'mindlike quality', which in a very developed stage could be called consciousness, but in its very early stages is just a sort of 'force'.

But independent of the developmental stage, I think it can be more or less 'selfregulating' the whole organism. And the more it is selfregulated, the more it works as a 'coherent beam of light', meaning that it can manifest itself in the best possible way and leave a 'dent' in the world, so to speak. With the result that each atom involved, adds the information from that 'life' to each previous experience and evolves.

Someone who is busy with research about this stored information is Michael Persinger. I don't know if you are familiar with his work but a while ago I saw the video 'No more secrets' which was very interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l6VPpDublg

I will have to watch it again more closely, but it was very much about how information and consciousness have an influence on 'things' in a way that would go beyond life.

Dear Annemieka,
Thank you for the most intriguing response. If I can survive this summer of physical labor, I will be returning to my studies in late September of this year, 2011.
So not from Bohm or any other master, I have experience a nagging question which I would like to ask you and your readers. If personality and consciousness must cease upon the brain's death, what is left of the person in a tangible sense. Specutlations about spirit and soul aside (though they might be real), what can we as empirical scientists point at and say "we can prove THIS exists beyond death"?
I would like to suggest if not contend that the "root energy" which animated the body continues its journey through space and time. Obviously we are all electric beings, actually comprised of electricity (or sunlight, energy, electro-magnetism, all the same thing). I say call it light, as did Christ and virtually all mystics and quantum scientists.
Is this Light all disseminated into the atmosphere as heat? "Photons"? Or could there be a coherent "beam" of Light which came into the world with the infant and left this world with the dead?
As you probably know, there exist a clump of a few cells in the thorax of a caterpillar which has a different DNA content than the insect itself. It is this "clump" which grows into the butterfly, not the caterpillar, which dies. This "clump" may even be the remains of a parasite that invaded the caterpillar millenia ago.
Well, what if the human body has an equivelent "clump" of cells or atoms differentiated from other body cells? Suppose these carry the "mother current" who enables the first cell to split into the zygote and thus individuate into a living being? Could death mimic the end of the being by withdrawing energy from all the cells upon death except the few specialized cells -- which may dehydrate and enter a state of cryptobiosis (like the tardigrades), enabling them to be "dead as a stone" as they are strewn throughout the earth's atomosphere as floating dust -- and even traveling through space without truly dying -- waiting to land in an environment capable of sustaining life? Here, like the tardigrades, they could rehydrate and "come back to life" -- beginning again the long, tortuous road of evolution toward those aware, thinking beings called us!
     Something to think about, no?

I went far back in my email inbox, but could not find an email from you at first. Then I thought you might have sent it on Facebook and looked in my other email account (which is linked to Facebook) where I found it.

I do not open that account as often as the one linked to my blog, and if I do, there are sometimes so many messages from Facebook that I might have missed it because of that.

To be honest, I don't understand the Facebook messaging system so well, never know when something is private, personal or just a message from some game. So I often click them all as read at once. But I will certainly pay better attention next time.

Thank you very much for the very interesting email and I will certainly respond.

The last email was a dumbed-down summary of "what I'm working on now" sent to my 72 year old Aunt. I thought you would find the gist of my work goal within it's simple construction. You made me feel like a child by not answering. It is bad manners to ignore a communication like that one.

Very interesting question! Something that I really would want to know too.

As I understand it at this point, and mainly because of the writings (and recordings) of David Bohm, the movement of electromagnetic charges is determined by information.

Information from outside as well as from inside (the past in some way or instinct or so) that 'puts form in', that gives a direction to the energy and matter.

That would mean that there is something in each atom that is sensitive to that information. A receiver (a mind-like quality) that is sensitive to certain frequencies, dependent on a lot of things, maybe a certain development or coherence or order or structure.

Well, something like that makes the most sense to me at this point.

Considering the uncertainty principle constant in human consciousness, would that not suggest the uncertainty principle in an atom is also a (perhaps simplistic) form of consciousness? Also, would this observation not suggest a type of reasoning -- or a type of receptor for a consciousness outside the atom and the mind? In simpler terms, what determines the movement of electromagnetic charges in atom and man? And woman of course.
